Among upcoming highlights of the 2023/24 season, Victorien Vanoosten will be leading a new productzion of Bizet's Pêcheurs de perles at the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse and will conduct the same opera at Berlin's Staatsoper Unter den Linden. He will also conduct two productions of Massenet's Thaïsand have his debut at Oper Frankfurt with Flotow's Martha. Recent season highlights include Mr. Vanoosten‘s debut at the Vienna Musikverein marking his return to the Tonkünstler orchestra, returns to Polish National Radio Symphony and Lithuanian National Symphony, a new production of Carmen at Opéra de Marseille and the debut at the helm of the Orchestre Métropolitain of Montreal, with Emmanuel Pahud as soloist. Mr. Vanoosten also led concerts of the Orchestre national de l’Île-de-France at Philharmonie de Paris and with NOSPR Polnish National Radio Symphony Orchestra as well as the Lithuanian National Symphony in Vilnius. In opera, he conducted a new production of Gounod’s Reine de Saba at Opéra de Marseille, as well as a new production of La Traviata in St. Etienne. He has been invited to conduct The New Year’s concert series of the Brussels Philharmonic with a programme including Richard Strauss’ Rosenkavalier Suite.
At Berlin Staatsoper, Mr. Vanoosten conducted performances of Cherubini’s Médée featuring Sonya Yoncheva in the title role, and Bizet’s Pêcheurs de perles, a Wim Wenders production. In 2014, he had been appointed assistant conductor of the Marseille Opera and became associate of music director Lawrence Foster. At the Opéra National de Paris, Mr. Vanoosten has conducted a reduced Ring des Nibelungen. He led critically acclaimed performances of French repertoire in particular, including Manon, Hamlet, Hérodiade and Messager’s Madame Chrysanthème, as well as ballet performances of Sacre du Printemps – conducted from memory. His groundbreaking 2021 video production of Sacre du printemps, together with Swiss artists collective Supermafia, earned him worldwide attention and became a viral YouTube phenomenon in classical music.
An accomplished symphonic conductor, Victorien Vanoosten was chosen to lead programmes for the inaugural weekend of Philharmonie de Paris, when he conducted a concert also featuring Lang Lang. He has conducted the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris and Staatskapelle Berlin in outreach concerts. Outstanding soloists who have marked his career include Olga Peretyatko, Stéphanie d’Oustrac, Karine Deshayes, Sabine Devieilhe, Marianne Crebassa, Rolando Villazón, and Michael Volle. He also stepped in, at short notice, with the Orchestre philharmonique de Marseille in particularly successful performances of Tchaikovsky’s Sixth Symphony as well as contemporary music including European premières.
As a pianist, Victorien Vanoosten recently performed Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G, in play/conduct mode. Victorien Vanoosten released his first piano solo CD in 2015, featuring his own transriptions of orchestral works by Debussy, Stravinsky, Duruflé, Saint-Saëns and Ravel. He was artistic editor of “La boîte à musique,” a classical music programme on French national television, from 2010 to 2015, and has repeatedly appeared on Radio France and Radio Classique programmes.
Victorien Vanoosten, who grew up in Lille, studied piano with Michel Béroff at the Paris Conservatory as well as conducting in Paris and Helsinki with Esa-Pekka-Salonen, Alain Altinoglu, Leif Segerstam, David Zinman, Peter Eötvös, and Pierre Boulez. In 2016 he won the ADAMI Conducting Competition. Mr. Vanoosten also received fellowships from Société Génerale Mécénat Musical and Fondation Banque Populaire, among others.

Victorien Vanoosten mène une double activité de chef d'orchestre et de pianiste.
En 2018, il est très remarqué par Daniel Barenboim qui l’invite aussitôt à diriger au Staatsoper de Berlin les Pêcheurs de Perles, dans une mise en scène de Wim Wenders, et à devenir son assistant principal. Il y dirige de nombreux ouvrages et rencontre un vif succès public et critique.
Directeur artistique et musical de l’Orchestre de Neuchâtel, en Suisse, il poursuit parallèlement une carrière de chef internationale, dirigeant dans les plus grandes maisons d’opéra (Paris, Berlin, Frankfurt, Zürich, Capitole de Toulouse) mais également symphoniques avec des orchestres de premier plan comme les Tonkünstler au Musikverein de Vienne, l’Orchestre National de Lituanie, l’Orchestre de la Radio Polonaise, le Brussels Philharmonic, l’Orchestre Métropolitain de Montréal). Il collabore avec des artistes de renom comme Emmanuel Pahud, Bruce Liù, Lang Lang, les frères Jussen, Gilles Apap, Patrizia Ciofi, Karine Deshayes, Rolando Villazón ou encore Jane Birkin.
Pianiste concertiste, il a enregistré un disque autour de transcriptions d’orchestre personnelles pour piano (dont le Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune et l’Oiseau de feu) qui l’emmènent partout dans le monde (Japon, Australie) et joue régulièrement avec orchestre en dirigeant du piano.
Il a également fondé et porte depuis 8 ans l’orchestre DEMOS en région PACA, un projet social et orchestral pour enfants.
Pendant la pandémie, sa production vidéo révolutionnaire du Sacre du printemps, "The isolated Ensemble", réalisée en 2021 en collaboration avec le collectif d’artistes suisses de la vidéo et de la lumière Supermafia, lui a valu une notoriété mondiale; elle est même devenue un phénomène viral de la musique classique sur YouTube.
Titulaire de quatre Masters, il a étudié à Paris et à Helsinki avec Esa-Pekka Salonen, Pierre Boulez, Michel Béroff, Alain Altinoglu et David Zinman. Lauréat des Fondations Banque Populaire, Meyer et Sylff (Tokyo), il a remporté le prix « Talent chef d’orchestre ADAMI ».
